STORY

Capturing an image of a female black rhino with her calf was a highlight of John’s wildlife photography career. In the early afternoon, under near-perfect light at Lewa, Kenya, John watched as this mother guided her young one through the tall grasses, their bond evident in every step. The oxpecker perched on her back, a silent companion in the wild, added another layer of life to the scene. Black rhinos are elusive, their survival threatened by poaching and habitat loss, making moments like these exceptionally rare. With her calf staying close, the mother’s presence radiated both power and tenderness - an emblem of resilience in an uncertain world. Through this image, John aims to preserve not only the beauty of these creatures but also the urgent need to protect them.
