STORY

There’s a purity in this kind of race with no pause, no forgiveness, just a line drawn across a shifting sea. The Sydney to Hobart Boat Race, a fiercely competitive and gruelling long ocean challenge, provides an exceptional backdrop for a series of compelling photographs. This iconic event starts in the vibrant Sydney Harbour, winds through treacherous sea passages, and finishes in a serene river in Hobart. I shot this image off the Tasman coast, leaning out over the safety rail of a chase boat, salt in my mouth and lens half-fogged with ocean spray. The boat cut through the swell like it had something to prove. Sails billowed, hull creaked, and every crew member was fixed in purpose. There’s beauty in pressure, and this moment held it - speed, silence, and raw seamanship framed against a brooding sky.
