STORY

The light was fading when I came across this zebra quartet on the open plains. They stood as if posing, two still, one twitching its tail, and one mid-yawn or perhaps mid-laugh. That little flash of expression was enough to transform the moment from a typical wildlife scene into something deeply human. There’s a rhythm in the way zebras move together, a quiet synchrony interrupted only by brief gestures of individuality. That’s what I loved about this image - the balance between formation and personality. These animals are often photographed for their patterns, but I’m always drawn to their behaviour. In this frame, it feels as though they’re part of a joke I’ll never quite hear. Captured in the last blush of day, it’s a reminder of the humour and harmony that runs wild in nature.
