STORY

The Sydney to Hobart Boat Race, a fiercely competitive and gruelling long ocean race, provides an exceptional backdrop for a series of compelling photographs. These images capture the essence of this iconic event that starts in the vibrant Sydney Harbour, winds its way through challenging sea passages, and finishes in a serene river in Hobart. I shot this frame from a chase vessel just as the clouds began to swallow the last sliver of light. The wind snapped the sail into an elegant arc, propelling the yacht forward as the ocean shifted beneath her. There’s something cinematic about this kind of solitude with the crew, the boat, and the brooding sea, all moving as one. I was drawn to the contrast between the fierce stillness of the water and the movement etched across the sky. A fleeting, wind-carved scene, one that speaks to endurance, direction, and grace under pressure.
