The Sydney to Hobart Boat Race, a fiercely competitive and gruelling long ocean race, provides an exceptional backdrop for a series of compelling photographs. These images capture the essence of this iconic event that starts in the vibrant Sydney Harbour, winds through challenging sea passages, and finishes in a serene river in Hobart. On this particular day, I tracked the fleet under a canopy of streaked clouds. The light caught the sail just as the boat angled south, splitting the sea with rhythmic grace. There’s a solitude to racing that only the ocean understands, every gust, every shift, a test. I wanted to honour that determination. The image feels still, but the vessel was cutting fast. It's that balance, power in silence, that defines this race and the people who sail it.
